Te Papa seeks a visionary Head of Learning to lead transformative educational experiences at New Zealand's national museum. This dynamic senior role champions innovative learning practices that connect diverse audiences with our extraordinary cultural and scientific collections through both physical and digital channels.
You'll drive the development and implementation of Te Papa's ambitious educational goals and aspirations, fostering powerful bicultural approaches grounded in mana taonga while authentically weaving mātauranga Māori and te reo Māori throughout all initiatives. Leading an inspiring creative team, you'll craft groundbreaking programmes that amplify our national reach and create lasting impact, building meaningful partnerships equally across kura kaupapa Māori, mainstream schools, and all learning communities.
We're seeking a passionate leader with 10+ years education experience, proven people management expertise, and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary learning theory, The New Zealand Curriculum, and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. You'll thrive within our Audience & Insight Directorate, collaborating strategically to achieve Te Papa's bold vision while serving all educational contexts with equal commitment.

The starting salary for this position will be between $131,156 to $155,747 with opportunity for progression through the band. Offers will be made within the range to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidate and internal relativities.
Te Papa will ‘Safety Check' as part of all recruitment screening processes to positions deemed core and non-core ‘Children's Worker' positions to meet the requirements of the Children's Act 2014. The Act currently requires ‘Safety Checks' to be undertaken every three years. The Act also requires that employment or engagement cannot commence before safety checks and risk assessment has been completed.
